What’s New 2016!

There’s plenty of new stuff happening at Toast 2016!  We’ve listened, we’ve researched and we’ve made some changes.  We hope you like them.

New – Load your festival franc spend straight onto your Toast wristband

For 24 years Toast Martinborough has been using the francs paper money system. This system was introduced back in 1992, because it was against the law to purchase wine on a Sunday. Fast forward 25 years and though there a number of new laws around the sale and supply of alcohol, thankfully not being able to purchase wine on a Sunday is no longer one of them!

Moving with the times, this year we will be introducing a cashless, hands free AWOP wristband payment system at Toast– much like a Snapper Card, but way cooler. When you get to the Square, swap your Toast ticket for a wristband and glass, then either head to The Square bank tent or to any of the festival bank sites and load your money onto the chip into the wristband using Eftpos, cash or credit card (not Amex).

When you buy wine or food, your wristband will be scanned and money deducted from your band. You can also ask for a balance, and top up at a bank at any time. The best bit? At the end of the day, if you haven’t spent the full amount on your wristband, you can get a cash refund ONLY from the bank in The Square (up to 6.30pm on the day), or online for up to 4 weeks after the event (to 18 December). You’ll be able to go online at awop.co.nz/refund and using the registration number on the back of the wristband chip, you can get your money transferred back on to your card. Just don’t throw your wristband away at the end of the day as you’ll need that registration number.  Absolutely brilliant.

BE IN TO WIN!  We’ve also an amazing competition for you to enter after Toast.  Once you’ve organised your refund, go to awop.co.nz/toastcompetition, enter your details using your wristband chip number and be in the draw to win…

Two nights for two at Peppers Parehua, lunch for two at The Village Café, a stunning basket of Wairarapa produce from Martinborough Wine Merchants, wine from Toast vineyards, a one year subscription to Dish magazine, and much, much more!

Competition closes midnight Sunday 18 December 2016.  Winner will be announced Monday 19 December 2016.

New – Glasses

We have exclusive rights to release Globelet’s new premium plastic wine glass – Globelet-VINO at Toast Martinborough this year!
This premium stemless wine glass has been designed to feel as real as glass (most people don’t believe it is plastic). Designed in New Zealand, it is made of plastic polymer called AS that is reusable and dishwasher safe.

And just in case you’re not convinced, we asked a couple of our award winning Winemakers – Helen Masters from Ata Rangi and Wilco Lam from Dry River –  to give the new glasses a test run. Understandably, they wouldn’t want their stunning wine served up in just any old glass, so it was a relief to all when they both gave it a thumbs up!   Globelet creates reusable products for major events across Australasia and we are very proud to partner with Globelet for our special 25th Anniversary event.

Though a lanyard is not really a necessity with Toast’s new glassware, you can purchase one for 2F at festival bank sites.  Commemorative sets of 4 glasses will be for sale from the merchandise tent in The Square.

New Vineyard and Restaurant Partnership – Luna Estate and Artisan Dining House (Bolton Hotel, Wellington)

What a powerhouse partnership!  New to Toast for 2016, Luna Estate and Murdoch James Estate will position themselves perfectly for Toast 2016 on Luna’s recently landscaped site at the top of the ‘wine mile’.  In partnership with Artisan Dining House, this really is one giant leap for festivalgoers, who will have the joy of tasting Artisan’s top-class menu and Luna and MJE’s award winning wines.  We’re very happy you’ve landed.

New Partnership – Vynfields and The White Swan, Greytown

We’re delighted to welcome Dale and the team from The White Swan to Toast 2016, as Vynfields catering partner.  We’re sure festivalgoers will be lining up to try Dale’s menu of delicious asian flavours. The perfect accompaniment to a glass of Vynfields organic wine while enjoying the sounds of the Shenanigans. A match made in the Wairarapa.

The Square

Join us in The Square at the end of a wonderful Toast day and celebrate 25 years.  Dance to the Beat Girls, on stage from 4.15pm,  or just listen with your feet up and relax a while before heading home.  Taste WBC’s famous pizza, Cafe Medici’s burgers, or dirty fries,  Ruth Pretty’s amazing ice cream selection, enjoy a coffee from Streamline Espresso, or great flavour drinks from Bootleggers Soda or Almighty Juice.  There’ll be plenty happening – after all, we’ve really got something to celebrate!

Liquor ban in place in The Square from 12noon – 8pm.
